LED – Light Emitting Diode
A LED is an electronic light source. They were first “discovered” in the early 20th century, but it was only converted to practical use much later.
The first commercially usable LED’s were developed in 1962. This was the red LED, it did not take long before it was being used & widely accepted for use in electronic display devices for items like watches and radios.
LED’s are used in all kinds of lighting applications. They have an extremely long life, are impact resistant and have a very low energy consumption, making them perfect as an energy saving solution.
When LED’s are connected to the mains (220VAC) they may require the use of control gear to ensure the correct operating current. They start instantly, as opposed to CFL’s (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) that take a minute or so to reach full brightness.
E4Electrical Knysna stocks a range of excellent quality, high-brightness LED GU10 lamps that are ideal for retrofitting (replacing) ceiling downlights in order to save electricity.
